Trauma Processing with the Integrative Trauma and Attachment Treatment Model (ITATM)®

Accelerated trauma healing that reduces symptoms and restores emotional balance.

What Is ITATM®?

The Integrative Trauma and Attachment Treatment Model (ITATM)® is our primary therapeutic approach at ATTCH Niagara. It is an embodied, neurosequential model designed to help clients safely reprocess and reappraise traumatic memories—without needing to talk about the traumatic event.

ITATM® integrates:

  • Sensory processing

  • Somatic therapy

  • Art and visualization

  • Resourcing and reframing

This structured combination helps regulate the body, brain, and mind simultaneously, making it especially effective for complex trauma.

A Faster, More Focused Approach to Trauma Treatment

ITATM® helps clients begin processing trauma sooner—but always one trauma at a time, ensuring safety and preventing overwhelm.

Because traumatic memories are stored in networks, processing one highly charged or early trauma often leads to improvement in related memories through generalization and memory chaining. This means clients do not need to reprocess every traumatic event.

Most individuals complete treatment in 20–30 sessions, rather than years of traditional therapy.

Why ITATM® Works

ITATM® has shown exceptional results in reducing the core symptoms of trauma. Clients experience improvements because the model addresses the root causes of distress, including:

  • PTSD

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Addiction and tension-reduction behaviours

  • Suicidal ideation

  • Self-harm and other high-risk behaviours

  • Anger and emotional dysregulation

  • Dissociation

These symptoms commonly affect daily functioning, relationships, school, work, and the ability to feel safe and stable. Reducing them creates meaningful, lasting change.

Evidence-Based Outcomes

A program evaluation conducted by Victoria Dobson and Dr. Paul Frewen (Western University Hospital) demonstrated both clinically and statistically significant improvements, often within just 5–6 sessions.

Average Symptom Reductions

  • Anxiety: 13.89-point decrease

  • Depression: 14.44-point decrease

  • Suicidality: 15.11-point decrease

  • Anger: 9.56-point decrease

  • Dissociation: 12.56-point decrease

  • Trauma Symptoms: 14.33-point decrease

  • Tension Reduction Behaviours: 14.22-point decrease

  • Externalizing Behaviours: 14.89-point decrease

These improvements support greater emotional regulation, increased safety, and reduced reliance on crisis services.
